ABOUT LONDON.
GEORGE IV. STATUE,
King George Iv..'s statue, Trafalgar Square, was originally intended for placing on the Marble Arch in front of Buckingham Palace. The memorial, which cost 9000 guineas, is generally considered to be one of the most artistic equestrian statues in London. The sculptor was Sir Francis ( hantrey, who, in modelling the horse standing still or all four legs, gave the sanction of his name to a bold innovation on the old custom of representing horses in statues either cyrveting or ambling. Sir Francis is said to have modelled the horse originally for a monument to Sir Thomas Munro. The King is represented bare-headed, in semi-classical dress, sitting 1 easily in his saddle, with the bridle held loosely in hie right hand.
