LOCATION OF CRICKET PITCH
MORRINSVTLLE CONTROVERSY. HARD WICKET ON FOOTBALL GROUND. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVTLLE, Friday. A controversy has arisen over an application by the Morrinsville Cricket Club to the Borough Council for permission to lay down a bitumen cricket pitch in the centre of the principal Rugby ground. The application was the subject of a lengthy discussion at last council meeting, when the matter was deferred pending an inspection by interested bodies of several alternative areas. The matter was advanced a stage further at last evening's meeting.
Lr. Chapman said that a thorough inspection had been made of all available areas, and the conclusion arrived at was that a wicket close to the hockey ground Mould be the best for all parties concerned. It would be necessary to level the ground, through which a large open drain passed, and this would entail a good deal of expenditure. The cricketers considered this was the best portion of the ground, and would get over the difficulty.
The Mayor said his. opinion was that to have the pitch on the hockey ground was the best proposition, and he would support it-
The engineer wits instructed to bring down an estimate of the cost.
