GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
CANTERBURY MARKETS.
(By Telegraph.— Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, Friday
Nothing so sensational m the rapid rise in the price of potatoes hag been recorded on the Christchurch produce markets for some years. Quotations for potatoes now show an increase of 100 per cent on those ruling at September 7. The price offered to farmers to-day was £9. For prompt delivery £10 was offered to-day, and for October delivery £12 10/. The rise is due partly to oversellers having to cover demands for September and October. They have been finding that the potatoes they need are not in sight. Farmers who have potatoes are holding firmly. A large quantity of wheat has changed hands on the Christchurch produce market at varying prices. Good quality is worth 5/8, and second grade, t. o.r„ 5/4 to 5/5. Fowl wheat is quoted at 5/7. f.0.b..
