SHORTAGE IN CREW.
FREIGHTER HELD TJP. FOUR STOKERS QISMISSED. CHR ISTCHURCH, this day. The Union Company's freighter, Waikouaiti, which was to have sailed this morning for Timaru and Sydney, has been held up at Lvttelton owing to the company's inability to secure a full crew. Mr. Rudd, acting manager for the company, in Christeliurch, stated that the company found it necessary to discharge four stokers who had been reported as unsatisfactory by the engineers. Several conferences were held with the union, but so far no agreement had been reached. Mr. P. F. Walsh, president of the union, insists that the men be reinstated.
