PRICE OF COAL.
A few days ago I read in the '•'Star" that one of the coal mining companies had declared a dividend of thirty-five per cent. In view of the fact that coal costs well over £3 a ton in Auckland, a dividend of thirty-five per cent appears to mean large profits. A fifteon-per-cent dividend is a handsome percentage, and anything above that should be passed on to the consumer in the shape of reduced prices. I believe it to be a fact that the mii.e worker can buy his coal at the pit mouth for nbont five or six shillings a ton, yet we in Auckland must pay over £3. "WOOD FOR ME,
