A SOLAR PHENOMENON.
On Sunday morning last the sun looked most peculiar, and I would be pleased if someone could give ine any information on the subject. About eleven o'clock the sky was clear but the sun had a distinct circle round it, while a larger circle cut through this circla and the centre of the sun just as though the sun were a bead threaded on a circle of wire. t I have never seen anything like it before, and am naturally curious as to the cause.
OBSERVER.
[The phenomenon observed by our correspondent was due to refraction of the sun's rays forming a double circle. In reality it was a reflection from the sun's halo and could be likened to the double rainbow which, it sometimes seen. The phenomenon is a rare one in this country but is fairly common in localities where the air is more rarified.—Ed.]
