HAMILTON FIRE BRIGADE.
FINE WORK AT HORAHORA. CHAIRMAN COMPLIMENTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. "I move that tlig action of the chairman be fully approved. There was a heavy responsibility thrown on his shoulders, but he acted prAiptly and wisely in an unprecedented crisis, and there is not the slightest doubt that by his action, combined with the excellent work of the brigade, the Government was saved many thousands of pounds and the whole of South Auckland a tremendous amount of inconvenience.*' said Mr. W. Pavitt, insurance representative, at a meeting of the Hamilton Fire Board, to-dav.
His comment followed the reading of a resolution from a recent, conference of power boards, thanking the lire brigade for the assistance it yave at the Horahora fire. The Public Works Department's thanks also were received, in a letter from Mr. T. MacLcnnan, the district electrical engineer.
The chairman. Mr. .T. McKinnon, said the firemen had handled the tire very carefully. The transformers were full of oil and they had to be cooled down very gradually, to avoid an explosion. The brigade's action was responsible for saving fully one-half of the transformers and enabling a partial supply to bo maintained.
