JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL.

BIRKENHEAD AND XORTHCOTE

The formation of a Parent-Teacher Association in connection with the Northcote Junior High School was decided upon last evening at a meeting of householders interested. The Mayor of Xorthcote (Mr. A. E. Greenslade) presided. Explaining the objects of the meeting. Mr. W. J. Wernham, the headmaster, pointed out the desirability or the close association of the parents with the school, this being in the best interests of the children and the cause of education generally. He paid a high tribute to the great work recently undertaken by the Marist Brothers in connection with the establishment of St. Peter's Rural Training School for Maori boys., in College Road, Xorthcote. and also referred to the new Grammar School at Takapuna in dealing with secondary education on the North Shore.

Mr. F. A. Garry, ex-president of the .New Zealand Educational Institute, and a member of the recent Syllabus Revision Committee, in the course or a very interesting address, said that the Nortbcote district was fortunate in having teachers with the vision to welcome the co-operation of the parent in their school problems. On the motion of Mr. R. H. Daniel (Nortbcote), seconded by Mrs. A. E. Wood (Birkenhead), it was unanimously'resolved that an association on the lines proposed be formed, and that a provisional committee be appointed to frame a constitution for approval by a further combined meeting of householders of Birkenhead. Northcote, Birkdale, Glenfield, and Albany, on October 18, at the Junior High School. The interim committee elected comprises Mesdames A. E. Greensladc, E. C. Davey, E. J. Bailey, A. Taylor. J. Gracie, and R. O. White, Miss Meston, Messrs. W. J. Wernham. R. H. Daniel, and H. W. Dixon, -with Mr. J. F. Potter as secretary, the first meeting to be held next Thursday.
