THE PAKURANGA HUNT. MEETING AT ELLERSLIE. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW. TEIK FIELDS REVIEWED. One of the most popular fixtures held at Ellerslio is the Pakuranga Hunt meeting, #or "the public like to see the jumpers in action. The annual meeting will take place to-morrow, and with lino weather a good afternoon's sport is promised, for fairly good fields are engaged in the various events. The Opening Event.
The programme wjll open with the Greenmount Hunters' Steeplechase, for which Bahadur (who is coupled with Mashoor) is top weight. He was placed in his only four starts at Ellerslio last season, and in hi 3 last outing finished second to Pouri in the Maniapoto Steeplechase at the Te Kuiti meeting in July last. Marita was third to Clockwork and Importer in the Hunt Club Cup Steeplechase at the last Great Northern meeting, while Cui Bono was second in the event in 1925, and later occupied a similar position to Kawini and Pendennis in the Hunters' Steeplechase, about two miles and a-half, at the Auckland spring meeting in the same year. He has since failed to get into the money. Te Horea showed good jumping ability at the Pakuranga' Point-to-point meeting earlier in the month, winning one event and finishing third in another. By the way he handled tho Ellerslie country yesterday morning he is going to be a useful sort over the big fences. General Maniapoto was unplaced in his only three starts last season. Mashoor also failed last season, while of the others Yum Yum and Extract may be the best. The public may §ive most support to
BAHADUR-MASHOOR (Bracket) MARITA. TE HOREA The Hunters' Hurdles. Nine are engaged-in the Harris Memorial Hunters' Hurdles. First Prince, who is at the head of affairs, was second to Singleton at Gisborne and won the Ladies' Bracelet, • one mile, at the Poverty Bay Hunt Club meeting with 12.1. ■had previously proved a good performer on the flat, and also ran fourth in the Greenmealtds Hurdles at) Napier Park last Saturday. Aotea-roa, though getting on In years, is a good jumper, but he may lack pace. He won a double over country at the Pakuranga Point-to-point meeting and had previously proved himself in steeplechase events. Ramblin' Kid has a good deal of pace and finished third to Bourn and Macngani in the Orakei Hurdle Race at the Great Northern meeting. Pekatah; was third in the Pio Pio Hurdles at the Te Kuiti meeting at Ellerslie last July to Farndon and Bahadur. Blago occupied a similar position in the Lepperton Hunters' Hurdles at the Taranaki Hunt meeting. Master Clements and Template may be the best of the lighterweighted division. The best backed may be FIRST PRINCE RAMBLIN' KID pekatahi. The Sylvia Handicap. For the Sylvia Park Handicap a fieiJ of nine have been paid up for. Goldur Wedding is bad at the barrier, but evei after getting left in the Swanson Han, dicap at Avondale ran a. good fourth With aii extra quarter of a mile to she should do better. Killute ran seconr and third in his two efforts at the T• Kuiti meeting, the last being a miland a-quarter, iii which Beau' Cavalioi and Nassock beat him. He should In improved with his racing at Avondale The Lover has won over a mile and h;ibeen second in a mile and a-quarte: event, and as he has gone on the right way since the Avondale meeting should run well. Bizarro, who is coupled with The Lover, won the Ladies' Bracelet at the Pakuranga meeting two seasons ago •nd was third in a similar event at the Waikato Hunt meeting. Restaurant was second in a mile event at Avondale in the autumn. Brampton and Tidal, if the going is good, may have most friends of the others. The favourite division may be
THE LOVER-BIZARRO (Bracket) GOLDEN WEDDING KILLUTE. The Jellicoe Handicap. The Jellicoe Handicap is the chief event of the day. Valkon ran unplaced at Marton, but was third in the Marangai Handicap at the Wanganui meeting and fourth in the Higgie Handicap aftgr leading to the straight. He occupied a similar position in the Avondale Cup. Mint Leaf finished second to Te Kara in the Pluinpton Handicap at Avondale on Monday, and he should go well. Goshawk is capable of running out a good mile and a-quarter, and if the going is at all dry may perform prominently. Sir Archie had his first race this season in the Avondale Cup last Saturday and has been working nicely at E Hers lie. Golden Krist, who won at Avondale on Monday, and Sleepy Sol may be the best fancied of those lower down. The bulk of the monev mav go on " " . VALKON MINT LEAF STR ARCHIE. The Hunt Club Cup. Clockwork, Importer and Huirangi Girl are all weighted at 10.9 in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup Steeplechase. The firstnamed won the Hunt Club Steeplechase, about two miles and a-half, at • the last Great Northern meeting, beating Importer, who \?as then conceding him 71b. In the Hunters' Hurdle Race at the Te Kuiti meeting, at a difference of 51b in his favour, Importer won by four lengths from Odin, who beat Clockwork by eight lengths. Importer was also third in the Hunt Club Hurdles to Glendowie and Pukerimu at the last winter meeting at EHerslie. Huirangi Girl won the Hunters' Steeplechase, •bout two miles, carrving 10.4, and the T*a naki Hunt C'up Steeplechase, about •two miles and a-half, with 10.7 in one day, at the Taranaki Hunt meeting on September 1 last. She appears to have
a good chance. Master Arch performed prominently over the steeples early in the w inter, and as he was competing against a better class than he will be meeting to-morrow he should be seen to advantage. Bahadur is engaged in the Greenmount Steeplechase as well as this event, and if started should go well. Waitaunaha fell early in the Taranaki Hnnt Club Steeplechase, but later in ths day won the Hunters' Flat Race. Marita and Te Horea are engaged in the Greenmount Steeplechase, and have been dealt with there. Rafferty and Pompeius mav perhaps carry most money of the others. When the machine closes the best backed mav be
IMPORTER CLOCKWORK POMPIEUS. The Auckland Handicap. The Atickland Handicap is a mile event, and the large majority have nothing to commend them up to that distance. Cashier ran a couple of good races over six furlongs at Wanganui, winning one, and dead-heating with Desert Lad in another. He looks as though he will stay on. Bombarder showed ability up to seven furlongs last season, while Master Lu scored over seven and a-quarter furlongs at the Matamata meeting last season. The Lover can go a good mile, bnt Winnington, who has just turned three, has yet to be tried over that 'distance. The chief fancies may be THE LOVER CASHIER MASTER, LU. The Ladies' Bracelet. % Most of those carded for the Ladies' Bracelet are engaged earlier in the day, but if started the following may be in request: FIRST PRINCE WAITAUNAHA MOY HALL. The Concluding Event.
Tho programme will conclude with the Dunedin Handicap. Kaiti is not overburdened with 8.8, and after his consistent running during the last three months he will have friends. Nancy Lee failed to show up at the finish of her races at Avondale, but should do better if the going is good. Branson has not raced for some time and the same can be said of Freehold, but all the same the latter showed some pace as a two-year-old last season. Hyde Park is also a useful sort and won at his last outing—the Mokau Handicap, seven furlongs at the Te'Kuiti meeting at Ellerslie. Flying Juliet and Oration did not run prominently at Avondale, though the latter showed good form before that. Billikins won well at Avondale and can go fast over a short course. White Wings ran well in the Avondale Guineas, leading during the early stages and finished fourth. Whaka King and Bsllymoy 11. may be the best of the other.
