BRITISH WAR DEBTS.
American's Donation To Pay
U.S. Interest.
ANONYMOUS GIFTS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 20. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Churchill, has received from an anonymous American £3000 worth of United States Steel Corporation 5 per cent bonds, as a contribution toward the payment of interest on the British war debt to America. This is the second anonymous gift of the kind from an American. A £20 donation was received on Saturdav.
A fund toward the redemption of this debt was inaugurated seven months ago with a donation from an anonymous Englishman of £500,000. Since then there have been several contributions, including one of £500,000 from Viscount and Viscountess Inchcape, this being the money left by their late daughter, the Hon. Elsie Mackay, who perished in an attempt to fly across the Atlantic with Captain Hinchcliffe.
