LAKE ST. JOHN

WHY NOT RESPECT NATURE?

Mr. Ymtes may be right in saying there is no connection between Lake St. John and the Onchunga Springs, and his idea of a golf course seems a good one, but why should the lake be drained away altogether? Surely the recreation ground that is going to be formed at the lake will be more attractive if some of the lake is preserved. We have only two lakes near Auckland, so why not try to keep them both; Auckland people are altogether too fond of improving on Nature- They soem to love catting down trees, digging away cliffs, and replacing the beautiful informality of Nature by stiff rock gardens and regular* plantations. Let us keep at least a bit of Lake St. John.
