GEOLOGICAL PHENOMENON.
FRENCH RIVER LENGTHENED.
An amazing geological phenomenon ia reporteil from Abbvvillo, in thu Somnm (lcpartincut of France.
Tho little River Drucat, a tributary ot the SoSnine, barely three miles long, has sullenly lengthened to ten miles. The former source of the river, which belongs to the tertiary period in geology, has reappeared seven miles further upland, and the river has resumed its prehistoric bed.
As the ancient river bed had almost disappeared through the ages, the water has spread itself out over a wide area. Hooding fields, gardens and the cellars of several villages. Ravines have been made in several places and much damage has been done.
Important public works will have to ho undertaken to restore the river to the bed through which it flowed when giant, reptiles roamed the earth millions of years ago.
