No. 1 grass track was available at Ellerslie this morning for training work, and the steeplechase course, including the hill, was also in use. The track was inclined to be on the heavy side as the result of the large amount of rain that has fallen recently. Nevertheless the going was much better than anticipated. There was a fair amount of interesting work, and it was keenly watched by a number of spectators.

The first to wofk were Thursby and War Officer, who ran six furlongs in 1.20. The pair were oh terms at the finish, and both went well.

Miss Alma was worked over a mile and a-quarter, and was timed to run the last round in 2.3 3-5, the final six furlongs taking 1.27 1-5. .. .

Red Lion strode over six furlongs in 1.28 2-5, but could have done a lot better.

Catkin trotted round to the six furlongs post, and, jumping away well, ran the first three furlongs in 39 3-5, and the full distance in 1.20 3-5. This was a good effort, and the Catmint gelding was finishing on well. Sleepy Sol, Restaurant and Doublemint were companions over a round, which they ran in 1.57 3-5. the last six ftirlongs taking 1.22 3-5. Sleepy Sol got the best of the start, and was in front throughout. He was going easily at the nnish,«and was really only galloping over the last six. furlongs.

Valkon was jroing better than Bert Hnikler at the conclusion of a six furlongs spin, covered in l.£G 4-5, Valkon could have done a lot better.

Liiiklaine ran the last six of seven furlongs in 1.29 2-5. and Kaiwanga did stroup work over live furlongs.

BrUmnton traversed.a round in 2.10 So, , but was not ridden out.

Billikins and Whaka King jumped oST at the five furlong post and ran home in 1.6 2-o. It Avas a useful gallop, with Whaka King on the outside, and he was going the better of the pair at the finish.

Valsier, who is steadily improving, was given strong work over six furlongs, but was not timed.

Cashier had a bit of pace on when he hopped off at the six furlong post ami run Innne in 1.21 1-5.'

Segment ran six furlongs in 1.20 1-5. but ran on to the sand at the turn and finished on that track.

Sir Archie and Golden Wedding were companions over rfx furlongs. Thev covered the flrct three in ."9 2-ss. and the full distance in 1.20. This was the best of the morning, and Sir Archie was in front and going well at the finish.

Master Lu and Town Teller sjirinfed home from the half mile peg in 1.9 1-5.

The Lover and Ponipcins were sent over a. round. Bom harder joining in at the seven furlong post. They ran the journey in 1.55 1-5, the last mile taking 1.48 3-5. The Lover went well, and wh* well in front at the finish of the round.

Freehold jumped away in front of the five furlong post, and ran his last harif in He in 52 1-iis.

Metallus was not doing his best to run six furlongs in ].27 2-3.

Laughing Prince galloped seven furlong*. After running the first three ill 41s, he completed the distance in 1.30 2-5.
