SOCIETY'S REPORT.

DISAPPOINTED ARTISTS

Tn moving the adoption of the annual report at last night's meeting of the Auckland Society of Arts, the chairman. Mr. A. S. Boyd, expressed regret that it wn« not more encouraging

He was '"re that if members could have s«en the rejected pictures thev would have agreed with the hanging committee, although some of the pictures which had been on the "doubtful" list had not been included owing to lack of room.

He was sorry personal animus had heen suggested, for it was unreasonable The pictures had all been fairly examined, and the committee had" been anxious to examine as many good works as possible. The society had suffered through lack of proper premises.

Dr. E. B. Gunson, the only nominee, was elected president for the ensuing year. Messrs. J. H. Upton, E. W. Payton, E. Earle Vaile, H. E. Vaile and A. S. Boyd were elected vice-presidents, and Messrs. A. J. Brown, Gerald, E. Jonas, and H. L. Massey and Mr«. E. J. Spicer were elected to fill four vacancies on the council. Mr. C. A. Stubbs was re-elected auditor.

A vote of thanks to Mr. Boyd for his services as president during the pa&t two yeara was carried by acclamation.
