TRAGIC LOVE AFFAIR.
Horsewhipped Minister Commits Suicide. GERMAN SENSATION. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) BERLIN, September 24. A tragic affair is reported from the State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Dr. Bruckner, Minister of Justice for the State, was horsewhipped by his nephew last Tuesday in the main street of Schwerin in the presence of a large crowd. To-day the Minister waa found drowned in the Schwerin Lake. Dr. Bruckner's brother recently married a widow with a daughter, aged 19, and a son aged 18. The uncle invited the girl to accompany him on a visit to Switzerland. Suspecting nothinir. her mother agreed. While they were away on the trip the Minister and his niece fell in love with each other. On their return the girl committed suicide. Thereupon her brother horsewhipped Dr. Bruckner to vindicate the family honour. The uncle left Schwerin, but returned and drowned himself.
