FIRES AND 'QUAKES.
Destruction And Alarm In California. STATE FORESTS BURNING. (United Service.) NEW YORK, September 24. Advices from Los Angeles state that earthquake shocks and forest fires have caused destruction and alarm in various parts of California. Three distinct shocks were felt in the Los Angeles district. Many residents rushed out of their homes, but there was no loss of life nor damage. Four fire-fighters have been killed and many have been injured. Two thousand men are still fighting the forest fires in widely separated parts of the State. A total area of 100,000 acres has been devastated, and many homes on the ranches have been burned as well as small settlements.
