MORRINSVIIXE. The date of the opening of the new cheese factory at Te Puninga, now in course of construction for Mr. J. Patterson, on >'o. 8 Road, has been fixed for October 1. KAITAIA. At the Kaitaia Town Board flections, the following were elected : —F. Mitchell, 210; 3. H. Bedggood. 203: J. B. Reynolds, 179; L. Peace, 171 : J. T. B. Taaffe, 165. TE AROHA. At the annual daffodil show of St. Mark's Horticultural Society, winners of special pri«ee were:—Champion Magnn Coronati, Mrs. Schofield: champion Media Coronati G. Tarrall: points prize, G. Yarrall. WAIHI. Waihi is to hold a carnival and shopning week in October, organised hy the Chamber of Commerce. A snorts programme, including mamy novelty events, has been drawn up and the various competitions take place in the main street. The carnival is to be onened by the "unofficial" Mayor and Mayoress at the Seddon Memor'al. WHAKATANE. The Rangitaiki Settlers' Association has decided to send a deputation to Wellington to urge, the necessity for stop-bankinjr the Rangitaiki River and diverting the Whak.itane River et the Kopeopeo bend. The deputation, which will consist of Messrs. F. J. Reynolds. A. J. McLean. A. E. Powdrell and W. McCracken. will leave Whakatane for Wellington on Tuesday. TE AWAHUTU. A motion to abandon the reconnection charge of 5/ in the case of consumers who have been disconnected for nonpayment of accounts caused a great deal of discussion at a meeting of the Te Awamutu Power Board. The chairman said that the proposal opened a loophole' for consumers to escape a fair payment. He preferred to wait until next year, when the whole basis of charges could be reviewed. The motion was defeated on the casting vote of the chairman. MATAMATA. A meeting of farmers was addressed by Mr. Dynes Fulton on Saturday on the question of the advisability or otherwise of dairy companies purchasing the intereete of the Challenge Phosphates Co., Ltd. Representatives of various dairy companies were present, but no resolution was asked for. Grading and blinding work has been carried on in Springs Road and has Improved what was previously a very bad stretch. TE PUKE. The vacancy on the Town Board, caused by only six of the old members renominating for the seven seats, has been filled by Mr. John Persey. Rangl Huka (17) and Wiremu Moses, of Maketu. appeared before Messrs. Cuff and Sannders. J.P.'s, on Wednesday, on a charge of assault against a girl aged 14. They were remanded on the application of the police nntil October 3. The dental clinic recently erected on the High School grounds is now open. Nurse Hall, from Tauranga, is devoting the next elx weeks to work at Te Puke. The parents have shown great interest in the new venture. TE KOPURU. A children's fancy dress ball was held at Te Kopuru. and £33 was raised for the Plunket Society. During the evening a musical entertainment was given by Mr. Mackie and Mavis and June Rope, who executed a sailors* hornpipe. Mesdames A. Morgan. W. Kelly, K. R. Rope, and J H. Stubbs were responsible for the training of the children, and the committee is particularly Indebted to Misses McKenzie and McCaroll, who played music for practices; and also to Mesdames Dunn and V. Wordsworth, who attended to the supper. TAURANGA. At a* meeting of the Tauranga Electric Power Board a letter from the borough engineer, with reference to a new scale of charges for bnlk electricity was dealt with. The Borough Council proposed a charge of .49d per unit up to 750,000 units per quarter and .49d per nnit for anything in excess of that quantity. The secretarymananger advised that this would effect 1 a reduction of £472 on last year's figures. Various proposals were moved, but lapsed for want of a seconder, and it was finally decided on the casting vote of the chairman that the Borough Council's offer be rejected. Some members expressed the opinion that the board should purchase an additional motor car to deal with the repair work and breakdowns over a scattered area, and it was decided that the matter be referred to the General Purposes Committee to make inquiries and report to the board at its next meeting. A letter from the town clerk inquired if the board -would be prepared to waive its claim on Muirs Gold Reefs, provided the council would do likewise. It was explained that the amount of the account was about £500. It was resolved that payment of the account be requested. The final meet of the Waikato hounds took place on Friday at Gate Pa, in greatly improved weather conditions. Some gooil hunting was enjoyed and some very spectacular jumping. After a good run the hunters repaired to the racecourse where refreshments were dispensed by the ladles' committee. The Hunt ball was held in the town hall in the evening, when the floor was In excellent order and the ball was tastefully decorated by a number of Tauranga ladles. The hounds left for Rotorna on Saturday, meetings having been arranged for Monday and Wednesday.
