TROTTING.
WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.
(By ORION)
October 13, 17—Auckland Trotting Club. October 22—Oamaru T.C. October 22—Northland T.C. November 6. 8. 9 —Metropolitan T.C November 17, 21—Otahoiiu I'.C November 24—Wellington T.C. November 29. December I—Forburyl—Forbury Park T.C. December B—Waikato T.C. December B—Cheviot T.C. J. J. Kennerley is not doing much with Peter Bingen at present. The Cup horse goes to the track each day, but does little beyond walking exercises. He is robust and well. Prior to framing the programme for the Northland Trotting Club's meeting a 1 conference between the officials of the club and the owners of the trotting horses in the Northern Peninsula was held; and, as showing the true sportsmanship of the latter, they agreed that, in order to assist the club this year, the race for local horses be deleted from the programme, and its place taken by another event in which visiting horses could compete. There is little doubt that this action will be appreciated by owners in Auckland district and elsewhere. The Northland Trotting Club has chosen a very appropriate day for its popular fixture this year, viz., Labour Day, as it accurately fills in the gap for owners and trainers between the Otahuhu and Auckland meetings. The programme drawn up is, for a one-day club, generous in stakes, and the class of events will have a wide appeal. Nominations for all events are due on Friday next, at 5 p.m., with the actingreecretary, Mr. A. F. Thomson, Whangarei or with Meears. Blomfield and Co., Auckland. METROPOLITAN T.C. HANDICAPPER. MR. G. PAUL APPOINTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHEISTCHURCH, Monday. Mr. George Paul, jun., of Auckland, has been appointed handicapper for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. Mr. Paul has acted for some years as handicapper to the Auckland and Otahuhu Clubs. AUCKLAND SPRING MEETING. NOMINATIONS ON FRIDAY. Owing to the rain there has been nothing doing at Epsom since Friday, but the majority of horses have put in considerable road work, and if the weather is at all favourable during the next couple of weeks the local horses should all be well forward when the epring fixture of the Auckland Trotting Club opens on October 13. Friday next will be a busy day with the secretary of the club, Mr. Mabee, as up till 5 p.m. that afternoon he will receive nominations for all handicap events. RIBBONWOOD'S LAST. JOINS J. SHAW'S STABLE. The Sydney pacer, Ribbonwood's Last, was due to arrive from Sydney to-day by the Maheno, and on arrival will be taken over by the Epsom trainer, J. Shaw, who will prepare the eon of Ribbonwood for racing ahead. Ribbonwood's Last is owned by Mr. Barrett, and was for a long time trained by C. Rokkjer, and the pair were associated in many wins. The most important success was in the Sydney Thousand in 1926. The race was run in two divisions, Luvan, now in Auckland, and trained by A. Julian, winnnig the first division in 3.312, and Ribbonwood's Last the second in 3.271. In the run off Ribbonwood's Last scored comfortably, but had only io go 3.33. Ribbonwood's Last is a grey pacer, by Ribbonwood—Blue Wing, and was brought across to Auckland during the 1924-25 season, but after two unsuccessful starts returned to Sydney. WELLINGTON TROTTING CLUB. NOVEMBER PROGRAMME. A meeting of the stewards of the Wellington Trotting Club was held on Saturday evening. Mr. R. A. Armstrong, president, was in the chair. The programme for the approaching November meeting was carefully considered, and it was decided to provide two races for novice unhoppled trotters. These will be the Nai Nai Trotting Handicap, of 200sovs, a 3.45 class, one mile and a half; and the Wilford Handicap, of 200sovs., of two miles, for horses that can do 5.0 or better. In making this provision the stewards were influenced by the smallness of the fields offering in the middleclass trotters' events at the recent meeting, and by the fact that it is a little early in the season to stage the faster class unhoppled trotters' races. The maiden pacers will have the Hutt Park Trial Handicap, a mile and a half 3.42 class, of 200sovs. The principal event for pacers will be the Electric Handicap of one mile and a quarter, with a 2.46 limit and a stake of 400sovs. The November Handicap will be a 4.36 twomile event, with a stake of 350sovs, and the 2.16 saddle mile again finds its place in the programme in the Sharpe Handicap of 300sovs. The improving pacers will have the Railway Handicap, a 3.34 mile and a half, and' the Middle-class Handicap, a 4.47 two miles, each, with a stake of 200sovs. The programme as= drawn is a very attractive one, and should meet with a ready response from owners and trainers. THAMES TROTTING CLUB. The popular country fixture, that staged by the Thames Trotting Club, will be held on March 23, 1909. This club has a membership of 540, and last season gave away in stakes £1200, and a gold cup donated by Mrs. B. Collins. As a result of the solid support accorded the meetings by owners the club has decided to erect a number of stables on a site away from the course. THE SYDNEY THOUSAND. The fact that J. Bryce should send Bankhead across to Sydney to contest the Sydney Thousand on October 2 can be taken to mean that the Southern trainer considers the brother to Cardinal Logan has more than a starter's chance. Bankhead is particularly well placed to bring the stake back, as he figures on the limit, and rumour Has it that before being shipped he ran a particularly brilliant trial, one which was good enough to win a better race than the Thousand.
