ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Onehunga Borough !ouncil was held last night, the Mayor * Mr. W. C. Coldicutt) presiding. Finance.—The general fund is in credit i £3527, and the two loan accounts are also t q credit. Accounts amounting to £1032 m rere passed for payment. Definitely Closed.—The matters in conlection with the taking over of the new irea from One Tree Hill, about which Mr. i. Smith has sought information from time \o time, have been finally dealt with, and he correspondence with Mr. Smith hereon definitely closed. Boundary Roads.—The council decided e again inspect the One Tree Hill and )nehunga boundary roads, and to obtain i legal opinion from the council to the Municipal Association of New Zealand on :he question of the liability for disposal >f the surface stormwater. More Light.—Residents in Quadrant Etoad petitioned the council to erect mother street lamp in their street between jrey and Arthur Streets. The Lighting Committee will report on the request. Tram Fares.—The Auckland City Council ntimated that it is unable to make any ihange in the tram fares between the city md Onehunga, which compare more than :avourably with those charged to other listricts. The council accepted the inevitable. Suggested Change Over.—The Public Works Department suggested that the jouncil revoke Us existing by-law relating to speed limits and take prosecutions tor excessive speeding under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1924, or the regulations. The council decided not to revoke its by-law, as it is on a par with the Motor Vehicles Act. War Museum.—Mr. F. S. Morton moved a resolution to instruct the member for the district not to oppose the War Museum Bill before Parliament. Mr. P. R. Lipscombe seconded the resolution, which was defeated on the casting vote of the Mayor. Street Collection. —Mr. Chapman protested on behalf of the Onehunga branch of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary against permission being given to any outside auxiliary to take up a street collection in Onehunga, as there are quite sufficient demands on local residents for local requirements. The letter was received. A Broken Wall.—The foreman of works, Mr. Bridges, reported that it would cost £74 to remove the present broken wall from St. Peter's churchyard in Queen Street, Onehunga, and replace it with a rockery of red rock from Mount Smart. Mr. R. G. Speight, chairman of the Reserves Committee, said his committee would like to help St. Peter's vestry, but the council had not the means at its disposal. The Mayor stated that the vestry had offered to give the council so many feet off the corner at Queen and Church Streets, to round it off and give more room on the pavement, if the council would do the work. It was finally decided to ask the St. Peter's vestry how much it would contribute towards the cost, amounting to £74. PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD. The Papakura Town Board met last evening, the chairman (Mr. Jas McOall) occupying the chair. Elliott Street.—Ratepayers on the left side of Elliott Street petitioned for the formation of a footpath for eix chaine to extend from East Street to Wood Street. Referred to the Works Committee for a report. Guilland's Metal Quarry, Ltd.—The board's solicitors (Messrs Lovegrove and Rice) advised with respect to the legal opinion thereon that owing to the number of authorities affecting the ieeue they were not able to have the opinion ready for this meeting. Railway Street.—The foreman was instructed to put Railway Street East in fair repair again. Tour of Inspection.—Rev. W. C. Wood moved, seconded by Mr, G. Leitch, and it wae agreed that the new board make a tour of inspection of the town, with the idea of getting a first-hand knowledge. Committees.—The following committees were appointed:—Works Committee: Meeers. Weir, Rhind and chairman. Finance Committee: Messrs. Andrew, McEntee, and Wood. Fire Committee: Mesare. Andrew, McEntee, Wood. Reeerves Committee: Messrs McEntee, Weir, and Wood. Traffic Committee: Meesrs. McCall, Leitch and Rhind. Library Committee: Messrs. McCall, Leitch and Andrew. Town Hall Committee: Chairman and Mr. Wood.
