PUKEKOHE BOROUGH COUNCIL
LOAN FOR WATERWORKS
The Mayor, Mr. John Routly. presided at the regular meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council held laet evening. The Minister of Public Works adviaed that no Government relief works had been started, or set aeide specially for Pukekohe unemployed. Arrangements were made, he stated, for unemployed in towns where there were no representative* of the Labour Department, to register at the poet offices. There were, added the Minister, no men registered as unemployed in the borough of Pukekohe. The Pukekohe Fire Board aeked the council to pass a by-law to prevent timber being placed on the dome of hot-water cylinders, ae a recent fire wae attributed to this cause. Referred to the bylaws committee. The Health Department reported tint • bacteriological examination of a eampk of the town water had proved Ae earn* to be pure. It was agreed to take a poll of the ratepayers m November, the date was not fixed, on a proposal to raise £8500 for the extension of watermaine in eeveral thickly-populated portion* of the borough. Tfie Auckland regional planning committee for No. 4 area advised that Pukakohe borough was included in No. 4 area, and asked the council to appoint a representative to an unofficial regional committee, to consider matters which affect the whole region, extending from Hender* son in the north to Pukekohe in the south. A reply is to be sent stating that Pukekohe was doing nothing in the matter of regional planning, and aleo to ask why an area of land between Papakura and Pukekohe—portion of Franklin County— wae not included. The distance between these two centres was stated to be about 14 miles.
