In Auckland the wind has been exceptionally strong, and it reached hurricane force about four (o'clock this morning. For the 24 hotira ending 0 a.m. to-day the wind velocity registered at the Albert Park Observatory was 344 miles per hour, the highest it has been this year. Half an inrh of rain was recorded, making the total rainfall to date this month 6.65 in, as compared with the average September rainfall of 3.50 in. All shipping is being delayed by stormy weather. The Kaitangata, which, was due this morning from Wellington, reports that she will not arrive imtililO p.m., while the Turakina, which was jane. frdm Liverpool yesterday, but whicf radioed that she would arrive to-d*y, ha* sent a further report stating that ahe cannot reach here until 10 a.m. to-ntprrow. The lonic, scheduled to arrive at Wellington from London yesterday, now expects to arrive at midnight to-night. Strong westerly gales were encountered by the. Mahenc, which arrived this morning, from Sydney, and last night, whetj coming down the East Coast, condition* Were particularly bad. The disturbance is apparently spread over a wide* area, as the steamer Ulimaroa, which was due at Sydney from Wellington this morning, reports that owing to strong head winds, she will not arrive thereuntil six o'clock to-night. A report from Bluff states that this morning the barometer stood at 28.77 inched, the lowest ever recorded there. Thin indicates* abnormal weather conditions, nnd a cyclone is predicted. FLYING IRON. At Long Drive, which was also in the track of the tornado, eight sheets of iron were torn from the reof of a house, and went whirling into the sky.
