SIR J. G. WARD AS LEADER.
AUCKLAND’S SUPPORT.
Loyalty to Sir Joseph Ward as leader of the United party was expressed at a meeting of the Auckland branch of the United party. The following motion was carried:—
“That the Auckland provincial branch of the United party heartily congratulates the Right Hon. Sir Jo'seph Ward. Bart., P.C., K.C.M.G., upon his election to the leadership of the party, and expresses its satisfaction upon his acceptance of the high and responsible position. It also expresses its great pleasure, that, after so long a record of distinguished publie service to this Dominion and the British Empire, Sir Joseph is ready to make so great a personal sacrifice at a time when the Dominion urgently requires his political and business experience to be united with a young and vigorous party. “It further pledges its unfaltering loyalty to Sir Joseph as leader, and trusts he will have the joy of leading the United party to vietory at the polls, and the Dominion out of its present difficulties into a new era of prosperity and larger freedom.”
