WALTER BURFITT PRIZE.
OPEN TO N.Z. SCIENTISTS. A prize, known as the Walter Burfitt Prize, has been established by the Royal Society of New South Wales as the result of a generous gift to the society by Dr. W. F. Burfitt, 8.A., M. 8., Ch.M., B.Sc., of Sydney. The following are the conditions: — (1) The prize will be awarded at intervals of three years to the worker in pure or applied science, resident in Australia or New Zealand, whose papers and other contributions published during the past three years are deemed of the highest scientific merit, account being taken only of investigations described for the first time, and carried out by the author mainly in these Dominions; (2) the prize may be awarded to two authors working in collaboration; and (3) the prize shall consist of a medal and the sum of £5O. The Australian National Research Council. New Zealand Institute, the Royal Societies of the various States, and other scientific bodies in Australia and New Zealand, will be invited to submit the names and publications of workers whom they deem worthy of consideration, and scientific workers generally will be invited to submit their publications directly, while the Royal Society may award the prize to a worker whose name has not been submitted to it. The first award will be made in May, 1929, for work published during the three years ending on December 31, 1925, and nominations and publications should be submitted to the Royal Society not later than February 28, 1929.
