During the first two months in which the new scheme (liberally extending the benefits) has been in force, sums totalling £370 have been paid out. These include two sums of £l5O paid to pedestrians unfortunately killed on the highway—and the “Star” is the only paper which pays on this liberal scale—and six sums of £lO each paid to readers who sustained injuries, involving broken bones, in their homes. Parents of children who also suffered broken limbs shared in the distribution, receiving sufficient, probably, to pay the medical expenses involved.
