SCHOOL ROAD RACE.
MT. ALBERT GRAMMAR EVENT
PLACED MEN'S FAST TIMES.
PREVIOUS RECORD BROKEN.
In the Mount Albert Grammar School's annual steeplechase yesterday, the first three boys home, A. B. Brown, W. A. Briggs, and J. Green, broke the course record of 16m 43s established by J. K. Hill in 1926. The course was from the school grounds to Rob Roy Street, into the Mount Albert-Onehunga Road, thence to Allendale Road and Richmond Road thence along Richardson Road, right round the back of the mountain into the Mount Albert-Onehunga Road a<r a in back to Rob Roy Street, and finishing at the school, a distance of just unde? three miles. About four hundred runners faced the starte*, and there were a number of parents and friends at the school to witness the start and the finish. Other spectators watched the race from various vantage points along the course. The b lg field was well strung out over the early part of the distance, with the back markers running very strongly and taking the lead near home. In the race to the judges Green failed to last against Brown and Briggs, whom he beat last year Brown getting the win amid great excitement. R. J. Crawford was the nrst of the juniors to finish, C. J. Vallance being second. Results:—Senior championship: A B Brown, 16m 18s, I, W. A. Briggs, 16m 28s, 2; J- Green, 16m 425, 3. Junior championship: R. J.
