KAURI GUM CONTROL.
The report which appeared under the above heading in your issue of the 19th inst. is very misleading. It would appear from the report that the Control Board exported 4531 tons, valued at £267,559, and on this volume of business made a loss of £24,783. Actually the position is that the whole of the gum exported was valued at £267,059. Of this sum but a small proportion was exported !>v the Control Board, arid the very heavy loss of £24,783 was made on a comparatively small turnover. The figures quoted give some idea of the real value of the kauri gum control in New Zealand. _ MERCHANT.
