MINING NEWS.
WALLSEND MINE REOPENING. Under the management of Brunner Collieries, Ltd., the well-kwown Wallsend Mine, near Greymouth, is to be reopened. The mine should resume putting out coal in a couple of months. The mine was closed many years ago, and the surface water entered it. This was electrically pumped out, leaving the mine dry. MANAGERS' REPORTS. Hauraki Mines.—The manager reports that the cross reef at the 180 ft level of the Union Beach is still promising, and samples taken show strong colours of gold on crushing and panning. The drive is nearing the expected point of its junction with the Stockwood reef and over the point where the gold was got In the 400 ft level.
