ELECTION CANDIDATES.
MANUKAU REFORM CANDIDATE.
MR. B. DUNN TO STAND.
A request was made to Mr. Bertram Bunn at Onehunga last evening that he accept nomination as the Reform candidate for the Manukau seat. Mr. Bunn acceded to the request, and the Prime Minister will be asked to give him official endorsement as the Government candidate. Mr. Maurice Harding of Mount Wellington, presided over a large and representative gathering. Mr. Bunn brieflv addressed the meeting. Mr. Bunn was born in North Canterbury 44 years ago. At an early age he took up farming, later becoming manager of several large estates in different parts of New Zealand. In 1914 lie contested the Riccarton seat as the official Reform candidate against the Hon. Geo. Witty. He saw active service in the Great War, and on his return resumed farming in the Auckland Province, more recently taking up a farm at Kumeu. Mr. Bunn is manager of the Huapai Fruitgrowers' business in Auckland. Some time ago he announced his intention of contesting the Auckland Suburbs seat, but retired when Sir James Gunson was selected as the official Government candidate. There now remain only two seats in the Auckland Province for which no Government candidate is announced. These are Grey Lynn and Auckland Central. THAMES ELECTORATE. INDEPENDENT WITHDRAWS. • (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Thursday. Mr. A. ,1. Whiteside, who was announced in July as an Independent candidate for the Thames electorate, has retired in favour of Mr. E. McGregor, of Morrinsville, who is standing in the interests of the United party. FRAWXXIN SEAT. UNITED PARTY'S POSITION. In connection with the Franklin seat, Mr. O. Moller, provincial organiser for the United party, said -the position of the party there was that, in common with a number of other electorates, the selection of a candidate was still under consideration. The party had arrived at a decision to contest the «3eat. Mitt)-CANTERBURY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The secretary of the New Zealand Labour party, Mr." W. Nash, announced to-day that Mr. Morgan Williams, farmer, has been selected as candidate -for %e mid-Canterbury seat.
