FARMER'S LUCKY ESCAPE.
ASSISTANCE FROM DOGS

Mr. L. Boss, a farmer at Waiawa, a few miles from Opotiki, had a lucky escape from dea.th when he was unexpectedly attacked by a bullock. H«v was walking through a patch of gorse, carrying a gun, when the animal suddenly appeared behind him. Mr. Rosa turned quickly and endeavoured to shoot it as it rushed him, (but he was not quick enough, and was sent flying into a clump of gorse. The animal then viciously attacked him,* but fortunately it had been dehorned, and this fact probably saved Mr. Ross' life. The dogs which were accompanying Mr. Ross immediately went to his aid and drove off the bullock, enabling him to make good his escape. Although no bones were broken he received a bad shaking, ahd it will be some time before ho recovers from the effects of the severe buffeting he received. Later, three riders on horseback efedea-' yow«d to round up the bullock, which instantly rushed at the horses. One of 1® horses received a severe bump, but a ter a good deal of trouble the animal was yarded. Later it was sold and "riven away without further trouble.
