THE SEARCH FOR GOLD.

It is pleasing to read in your paper from time to time reminiscences of the Thames goldfields by prospectors and old-time miners. A great many of the gold strikes and thrilling adventures enumerated can be vouched for by the writer. There are two great obstacles to the winning of the precious metal and to the future prosperity of the Thames goldfields: The locking up of large areas of the choicest auriferous portions of the goldfields, and drastic laws and regulations. In respect to the former no one should hold large areas for speculative purposes unless these are adequately manned. As regards the latter, the sooner the Government alters the goldfields laws and regulations to somewhat similar to those that were in vogue in the 'eighties the better. It would give a greater inducement to the investor to raise capital to further explore vacant ground. AURIFEROUS.
