WAITEMATA COUNTY PROPOSALS.

LOANS TO BE RAISED
An offer was received from tlie Main Highways Board at to-day's meeting of the Waitemata County Council towards the cost of reconstructing and paving the Henderson-Kunteu section of the Auckland-Hclensville main highway. Free money was offered for formation work, and a subsidy of £2 for £1 for new bridges, and £3 for £1 for surfacing and paving. The board intimated that it was desirous of doing half the formation work during the coming summer. Before doing this, however, the council must accept its offer and undertake to provide its share of the funds, which would be ' raised by loan. The proposal was to finally penetrate with bitumen as far as Huapai, a distance of 11 miles. It was reported that with the sum offered, the County Council would have to find £12,667 in respect of which it would be necessary to raise loans. The reconstruction of Brigham's Creek Bridge was involved, and the Highways Board was willing to contribute £2000. chairman reported that after a conference with the board, members interested had resolved to accept the programme as suggested and support the proposal for raising loans in the ridings of Waipareira, Waitakere and Kumeu that were affected.
