MAYORESS' LIBRARY LEAGUE
HINT AS TO THE FUTURE
An application from the Mayoress' War Memorial Library League for a donation to its funds was received at yesterday's meeting of the executive committee of the Auckland Patriotic and War Relief Association. It was explained by the chairman, Sir James Guiioon, that the league was the successor of the Women's Patriotic League. When the latter body in 1920 handed over its funds, amounting to £18,900 (which was put into the association's "B" fund) and went into liquidation, as it were, the former body was formed and justified its existence by continued activity in visiting soldiers in hospitals and similar work. The Mayoress' Library League had received donations of £100 in J 020, £100 in 1021. £200 iu 1022, £150 in 1924, £200 in 1925, £200 in 192t>, and £150 in 1927. As it was necessary to conserve the "B" fund, a reduction was suggested, and it was decided to vote the sum of £100 this year. It was also indicated that in view of the state oi the "B" fund tile association might be forced to discontinue these grants. I
