JOY-RIDERS DARKEN TOWN.
MOTOR HITS ELECTRIC POLE
DANGER OF ELECTROCUTION
<By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday.
The town of Inglewood was plunged into darkness early this morning, when a "joy-riding" party in a commandeered car knocked over an electric light pole on the main New Plymouth-Inglewood Road.
The car was a seven-seater sedan, belonging to Campbell's Motors. Ltd.. and it had been taken from outside Mr. Campbell's house in New Plymouth the previous evening. High-tension wires, carrying 6000 volts, were broken down when the car struck the post about I a.m. It is remarkable that the occupants escaped electrocution.
When the repair gang arrived there was no sign of the occupants of the car. The repairs were not completed until 8 a.m., and farmers in the vicinity had to milk without electric power.
