CRICKET.
ENGLISH TEAM COMING? MASTERTON, Wednesday. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Cricket Association this evening, a letter was read from the New Zealand Cricket Association asking for support in bringing an English team to the Dominion in 1929-30. The Wairarapa Association considered a visit from an Australian team would be more beneficial to cricket, but in the event of an English team coming, it suggested that the professional English players in the Dominio-n be included in the personnel of the team. This would not entail so much expense, as fewer men would need to make the tour. GIRLS' ASSOCIATION. SIX CLUBS FORMED. The formation of a Girls' Cricket Association was decided upon at a meeting of the Auckland Girls' Athletic Association held at the Y.W.C.A. last evening. Migs Begg presided. The Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association, the Y.W.C.A. and the Technical, Grammar and Diocesan High School Old Girls' Associations were among the bodies represented. An address on the aims of cricket was given by Mtss Crammond, who stressed the value of daily training. Six clubs, each with two teams, were formed, and it was mentioned that the prospects of 'ncreasing the number of clubs were bright. It was reported that play would commence early in November. Miss Begg expressed the hope that any girl interested in the game would get in touch with an officer of the association and join up with a club. As the Girls' Athletic Association have taken over the Remuera hockey grounds, the newly formed association should have first-class wickets for all matches.
