MOUNT ALBERT AFFAIRS.

STREET RECONSTRUCTION. FETE AT MORNINGSIDE. The Mount Albert Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. L. E. Rhodes) presiding. The tender of Messrs. J. J. Craig, amounting to £5527, was accepted for the reconstruction of Arabi Street. The engineer's estimate was £5509. The council had requested the Railway Department to seal the roadway up to the sleepers oh either side of the railway tracks at George Street crossing. The district railway engineer replied that there were no funds available at present for carrying out the work. It was decided that the Mayor and the council's actingengineer should wait on the railway officiate with a view to reopening the j whole matter. ,'Permits for 32 buildings were issued fbr the three weeks ending September 14 the total amount involved being £6809. This sum included £5579 for seven dwellings and £883 for 11 additions. Twelve motor sheds, valued at £412, were also erected. Health of Borough Good. A report showing the notifiable and infectious diseases since the last meeting of the council stated that the health of the borough was good. During the period under review there had been two cases of diphtheria, two of scarlet fever, and one of tuberculosis. At the request of Mrs. Mary Dreaver permission was granted to take up a street collection on Friday. September 28, in aid of the Hospital wireless equipment fund'. The Aroha Ladies' Progressive League was granted permission to take up a street collection on November 23. The Devonport Borough Council wrote asking for a general expression of opinion regarding the question of street collections. It was decided to reply to the effect that Mount Albert always dealt with them on their merits. Applications for permission to erect a basketball court on the Morningside reserve, and to hold a fete day on or about December 8 on the same reserve were referred to the Domain Board for consideration.
