ONEHUNGA RECREATION RESERVE.
May I correct a statement in your issue of the 17th inst. in a paragraph headed "Onehunga Recreation Reserve"? It is stated that as a result of the efforts of the president of the Onehunga Sports Federation (Mr. J. E. Green) the Auckland Patriotic Association has agreed to furnish funds for the work. This is incorrect, as the offer was made in the first instance by the Patriotic Association direct to the Onehunga Borough Council, firstly to provide work for unemployed soldiers, and secondly to provide extra playing areas which are urgently needed by the ever-increasing population of Auckland and suburbs. Needless to say, this offer was gladly accepted and the Reserves Committee at .once had plans and estimates drawn up for the necessary work, which were placed before the Public Works Department, Auckland, for its approval before forwarding to Wellington for linal sanction. The Reserves Committee very much appreciated the sorting offer of th,e Patriotic Association and had no wish to have the proposal published before it was sure of the work being sanctioned by the head office in Wellington. COMMITTEEMAX.
