AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIAL.
The Amateur Operatic Hall presented a bright scene on* Saturday night last, when the Auckland Athenian Club held a very enjoyable social, in the form of a "Flanders Xight." The stage was artistically set us a garden with a lattice work of wistaria blooms, lycopodium, tall trees and scarlet poppies with twinkling lights Hidden amongst the fernery. Many beautiful flags draped the windows of the hall. An excellent and novel war-time programme had been arranged by Miss Laura Walker, and included items by Mrs.. Keven in a tableaux representing France, Mr. Allan Ble.wden playing the "Last Post" off the stage. The garden scene from "Faust" was given by Miss Gladys McCleay (Siebel), Mr. Peter Dawson (Mephistopheles), and MiSs Laura Walker, (Marguerite). A fine feature of the evening "was an estaminet scene of the old war days in France. The main items being in the hands of Me&srSi F. Green,, F. O'Conner, P. Franchi, Vic Elliot (late Diggers), and the Misses Stella Thompson and Edna Hall. Many queer hats were worn in the "Mad Hat Parade," the first prize being awarded to Mrs. Curtis, who wore a very novel albatros headdress. Mrs. Arthur Griffiths waft-judge. Other items were the Franch tango by Miss Arlen and Mr. Colin Shorter; a witch scene, introducing the leap year dance, with ghost stories by Mrs. Arthur Griffiths. Mi&a Walker received the members and guests wearing a dainty frock of blue taffeta with silver trimming. Among those present were: Mrs. Percy Free, frock of heavily sequiiined black georgette; Mrs. Trask, ivory georgette, crystal designs; Mrs. Munro Emanuel, frock of gold and cyclamen; Mrs. Wright, taffeta frock of scarab, blue and silver lame; Mrs. Jackson Kerruish, black frock of georgette; Mrs. Brooke, sequinned frock of black chiffon over orange satin; Mrs. G. Stuart, pearl gray satin with sequinned motifs; Mrs. Drew Jackson, chenille embossed georgette; Mrs. Asquith, black charmeu.se model; Mrs. Rout, poinsettia red frock of! satin beaute with gold lace; Mrs. H. Robinson, apricot georgette; Mrs. Ingram, orchid mauve frock of georgette, rose motifs; Mrs. Hardy, ravenswing blue frock of crepe de" chine; Mrs. Walker, black satin du soir and georgette; Mrs. A. McKenzie, black satin with handsome shawl; Mrs. Moore, green georgette frock, trimmed gold lace; Mrs. J. B. King, black frock of georgette and gold lace; Mrs. Curtis, black satin gown with Chantilly lace; Mrs. Frank Blewden, black frock and hand-painted shawl; Mrs. Tysoe, delphinium blue frock; Mrs. Jaques, frock of beaded georgette; Mrs. Artliur Griffiths, eau de nil -frock of georgette, crystal beaded; Mrs. Congdon. petunia frock of ring velvet; Mrs! Franchi, primrose frock of heavily beaded georgette; Miss O'Connell, white georgette; Miss Beryl Smith, blue taffeta frock; Miss Olga Clark, black taffeta with diamante; Miss M.
