COURSE OF THE FLIGHT.
COAST FOLLOWED TO KAWHIA WATCHED BT CROWDS EN ROUTE. It was thought that the convoy of aeroplanes might do as the Southern Cross did in Wellington, namely, circle .over the city on arrival from the South. On the roofs of city buildings, on balconies in the suburbs, and on the numerous volcanic conos around Auckland there, were watchers in the hope of obtaining a near view of the visiting 'planes. Alas! for early morning enthusiasm! The pilots on sighting the landing field took an airline as straight as that of homing pigeons returning to their loft. Their course was by way of Kawhia, where they were sighted at 8.27. The 'planes were swung east and inland. They were next sighted Irom Pukekohe Hill at nine minutes past nine. From there the route lay over level country in a straight line to Ihmnatao. People at Paerata, Papakura, - Takanini, and other intervening centres had a splendid view of the 'planes steadily winging their way to the north. The most impressive view, however, was reserved for ' the enthusiastic thousands grouped in the vicinity of the aerodrome. They had a splendid point I of vantage on a long green slope near the Manukau Harbour, for to reach the landing field the 'planes .had to pass immediately overhead. Crossing the estuary, the four machines turned towards the west, and with the sun glinting on silvery wings and bodies they made an inspiring picture. Those who were fortunate enough to be there will not eoon forget the landing of the Tasman flyers °in Auckland.
