In ISO 7he obtained the only- first-classes awarded that year in modern languages, and carried off the JiaeCallum English Prize in each of the three years. In April,-1599, he was elected to the Wolley Travelling Scholarship, and proceeded to Oxford, where he enter-! Ed in October at Balliol College. At Bal-j Hoi he gained a second- class in the Final B.A. School of Literae Humaniores in ISOI. During, this time he had been iworking under the late Master of Balliol 4 Dr. Caird), the late Mr. Evelyn Abbott, «jid 2Vtr. J. L. Strachan-Davidson, nowMaster of Balloil. In June, 1902. he sat for the degree of Bachelor of Civic Law, and. gained: one of the three Second Classes of the year, no First being swarded. " On returning to Sydney he .•was appointed to. an assistant mastership at the Sydney Grammar School. In 1906, during a "classical interregnum" at" Adelaide, he acted a≤ Professor of Classics, and delivered a course of Extension Lectures on the Classical Drama. At the end' of the year the University awarded iriTP an honorary ad eundem de°ree. Laier he has been sole Public- Examiner to the University of Adelaide in the -Higher Classics.
