' Eoianion. with the object of submitting the alternative ot making a grant to blast oat as sandstone reef below the railway ..jaurf, so that the s.s. Mr Foote said that to complete the indent Grahamtown extension with a . wharf and other necessities, would cost about £HLOOO, whereas the sandstone bar eoald be moved for £10.000 or less. It ys then agreed, on the motion, of Mr Carrara, that the Government should be asied to place upon the Estimates a snm to 'remove the sandstone reef below the railway wharf, gnri thus enable •Vessels to reach, the railway wnarf at low or if this could not be done, that ifce railway should cress the Whangarei 3£ver-at cr near the town 'wharf, and pass town the eastern side of the river to Graaaamtown. and that in the .meantime the Passage through the railway bridge should be widened so that the river traffic would ?ot.lae impeded.
