Amongst the Navua's passengers, which arrived- from the .Islands, on Saturdayi were the Rev. Mearns Massie, of- Launcest»nj„Mr.. C, H. Hughes, of Sydney, who has, been acting manager of .-. the N.S.S. .Co. at Fiji; Captains. Whaler, of Wellington, and V. Stuart, of Tonga; Dr.and Mrs, Winterbottom, of Launceston; Dr." Schweninger, ■ Government Medical Officer at Samoa; Dr. F. Kuhleman, of Sydney; and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burr gess, of Hobart.
Captain Andrew Cunningham, an old and -respected resident of Onehunga, passed away at his residence, Queen-: street, yesterday morning, after a long illness.. The deceased, who had reached the ripe age of 76, was formerly master of the ship Gazelle, which traded between Auckland and Sydney in the sixties, and, at different times, had the command of several other vessels. After leaving the sea, he entered into the carrying and forwarding business, from which he retired five years ago.
At 8.20 p.m. yesterday two small tram cars collided at the cross-over in Cus-toms-street East. One of the cars had advanced too for down the line, the other, in crossing to the up-line, bumped rather heavily into it, tiie front portion of each car being somewhat badly damaged. Lupkily, no one was hurt, although several of the passengers had a very sever* fright.
