The residents of Wynyard-street and vicinity have been provided with a new sore of excitement during the last week or so, by the unwarrantable behaviour of a monkey, whose antics have, it is stated, nearly caused heart failure to several worthy dames. The disreput-' able simian has acquired some very loose habits, including the rather annoying one of entering any window he happens to find open, while the roofs of the houses are as much frequented by him as playgrounds. The police suppose the animal to be identical with one which has formed the subject of two Police Court cases recently. In the first of these a charge of theft of the monkey against three' men was dismissed, the disappointed claimant subsequently re-appearing to answer a charge of trespassing, whilst in search of his pet. The pet would- now seem to have escaped both parties, and the services of the dog ranger have been requisitioned to effect a capture. It is not expected that the animal will last out much longer if the weather continues as at present.
