. Trade in -mutton, is very disappointing, and only hand to mouth demand is experienced. There is an inclination to force .ales of Argentine mutton. Prime Canterbury brands are scarce at 4J.d, secondclass quality 4_d. North Island mutton is uull of sale at 3Jd for light weights, and for heavy. Argentine averages 3;Jd for light weights, and 3d for heavy weights.

The lamb market is steady, but is likely to decline, in consequence of; getting towards the end of the season". Canterbury brands, oj-d; other than Canterbury, 5Jd.

The beef market is quiet, with a moderate supply coming forward. . Beef is quoted at 3|d, and Id for hind and fore-quar-ters • respectively.

_ The butter market is quiet, but firm. A very brisk demand is being experienced for best quality. I'rospects for next season are improving, and there, is no reason to anticipate a decline ln price. Choicest New Zealand, 103/; Danish, 112/; Siberian, 96/ per cwt: A large supply of Canadian manufacture is arriving, and is quoted at 105/.

The cheese market is steady. Ganadlan supplies are increasing; New Zealand white make 60/; coloured, 61/; Canadian white, 56/; coloured, .58/ per cwt..

The hemp market is-very quiet. Good fair grade, on spot. £33 10/; good fair Wellington, spot, £20; fair current Manilla, on spot. £34 10/: July to September shipments are quoted at above rates.

The cocksfoot seed market is dull, and very Utile .business is doim;. The price of 171b seed is SS/ per cwt.

The hop market is firm, with a hardening tendency. The crop is very backward, very small, of poor quality, owing to a bad season, and prices are advancing.
