INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL.

"PLAGUE HOSPITAL" TO BE REMOVED. ■;- The unsightly buildings on Domain Hill, erected at the time of the first "plague, scare," and commonly known as the Plague Hospital, though used for minor infectious diseases, will not cumber the Domain much, longer. At last night's meeting of the City Council, the Town Clerk, ilr H. W. Wilson, reported:—

"By newspaper reports this week I notice that the new infectious diseases wards at the hospital are completed. The time for removal of the old infectious diseases hospital buildings from the portion of the Domain on which they were erected is long since overdue, and I would recommend that the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board be written to and asked to say by what date these buildings will definitely be removed."

The Mayor moved that a copy of the report be forwarded to the Charitable Aid Board, and that they be asked to give their earnest consideration to ttie suggestion. i.

Mr Bagnall said 'hat he did ' not think this would be necessary, because at next. meeting they would commence the removal of ono building, and it would not be long before the other would be cleared away. The new buildings were now ready, and patients were being removed. As soon as that was completed the removal of the buildings would be undertaken.

The Mayor complimented the chairman of the Hospital Board on their action. Meanwhile, he moved that formal application be sent.

Mr Bagnall seconded, and the motion was agreed to.

The City Treasurer reported that the Auditor and Controller-General required, notwithstanding the city solicitor's opinion, that the amount of £663 19/5 paid in.June, 1906, to the Auckland Hospital and Charitable' Aid Board for Council's proportion of expenditure to 31st December, 1905, on infectious diseases, be provided from general and not charitable aid account, and that the payment of £233 2/2, the proportion of infectious diseases expenses to 31st December. 1906, paid in April of this year, would also be affected. It was resolved to adhere to the position as advised by the city solicitor.
