BOCKi' NOOK BOWLISG CLUB. Members of the Rocky Nook Bowling Club rolled up in grood numbers to the pavilion. The annual report chronicled the success of the members of the Te Arolia and Rotorua tournaments. The number of three additionaPrinks had beerTlaid down. Mr Ellisdnn was champion player for the 1906-7 season. The pairs championship was unfinished. Messrs Waddiogham. Hall. McLeod, and Bouskill won the fours championShip, and Mr Gribble, the first year's players' championship. Receipts for the year had been £223 19/6, including £149 2/ for subscriptions; while the expenditure totalled £322 7/, of which £50 was for the repayment of debentures, and £7.3 13/6 overdraft. The season concluded with an overdraft of £98 7/6. The report and balancesheet were adopted.

It was resolved that after the next N.ZBowling Association's tournament the club would soepde from the Association unless the methods of financing the tournaments was altered. It was also resolved that the club revert to the practice of giving trophies for club matches, and that the committee be empowered to accept or decline trophies'at its discretion.

Votes of thanks were passed to the ladies, the retiring president, officers, and committee, and the caretaker.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing season: President, Mr. F. J. H. Ellfedon: vice-presidents, Mr. 3 Jenkin and Mr. J. H. Whitaker; secretary, Mr H. Tattersall; treasurer, Mr. 11. 0. Haselden; auditor, Mr. S. J. Clarke; green superintendent, Mr. H. C. Small: committee, Messrs. W. Hurst, J. L. Wakerley, J. W. Butler. H. Rathbone: delegates to the Auckland Bowling Association, Messrs. Kayes and Butler; match committee, Messrs. Kayes, Wakerley. and Butler. SEDDON MEMORIAL CONCERT. The concert promoted by the Lancashire Society in aid of the Seddon Memorial Fund passed off very successfully last evening at the Royal Albert Hall. The attendance was somewhat sparse, but the hearty applause which greeted the various artists the listeners. Several ot the items in the speced part of Uie programme were somewh-!«* marred by the accompaniment of rain on the iron roof of the hall. Mr. Andrew Black's appearance was greeted with enthusiastic applause. His first solo. -'It was a Drea*n" (Lasseut. showed Mr. Black in his more serious mood, and his rendering of the bracketed item. ••(.). Ruddier Than the Cherry" (Handel), gave the listeners a still better idea of his magnificent vocal powers as a baritone. He was enthusiastically encored. In the second part Mr Black contributed the warrior's heart-broken lament. "Kirk Connell- Lea" (Lawsou) "Uea-la Luna" (Rossinil. an Irish dialect sons, and ns encore pieces. "Why Stiould 1 Marry?" and tbe old Scotch song "I'be Land of the Leal." Miss Blanche G-arlaud, the possessor of a fine contralto voice, contributed "Out on th» Kcwks" iDalhvl and "Husheen" (Lady Alicia Xeedharni "and as an encore sang "Three Green Bonnets." Mr. William Aspiuall sang "Come Into the Garden. Maud." and as an pnenrp number, "Annie Laurie." Latpr in tb" evening Mr Aspinall gave a delightful rendering of, "The Last Watch" (I'insuti). Two Uute" solos liy Mr. G. E. Poore showed much skill and talent. Miss Alice Law, L.X.A.M. accompanied by Mrs. C. Maoindoe. contributed a tone pianoforte solo, "Ungarish;- Fantasie" iLiszii. Herr Louis Blitz, in his 'cllo solo "Ballade" iGollermanni. showed himsei: to be master of his instrument and re ceived hearty recognition. Mr. Fort supplied the comic element with two splendidly humorous Irish recitations together with the Scotch ditty. A large audience assembled in St Bar nabas' Hall, Mt. Eden, last night when a concert and dramatic entertainment was given in aid of the new church building fuud. An exeelleut orchestra, under Mr A. Messenger, gave three selections in very fine style. "Le Diademe," -Sea Songs" bx V r r he n S t mlth y" A clarionette folo oj Mr .T. R. Hooper was well received, and with a humorous recitation. "S'norgius*'* 3 \ very pleasing item was the rendering of 'Cavalleria Rusticana" on the mandolin by Mr A. A. Partridge. Miss Phvllls Mills showed, considerable ability in a piano solo and a comic song. "The Irish Jubilee "' by Mr Harold White, was well sung. The second part was a farce, entirled "\ Tourist's Ticket," which was very we'll presented. As r arrington Penchurch, a London clerk on a fortnight's holiday in the country, Mr Gordon Hillyer acted Very convincingly. "Lucicda Barking." the young lady in the refreshment room, was played very well by Miss J. Land, and the part of Milly. the village milliner, was secure -in the hands of Miss Woollams.

"Starter Shunt" (Mr Harold White) was a good piece of work, and "Mrs Cranky." a

"bunprotected widder." was excellently Impersonated by Mr C. K. White. "Rotnuhis Rasper," Luclnda's guardian, also received a good interpretation by Mr Stanley Gilfillan. Other characters were:

De Montalk: "Miss Simperton" (passenger by down express). Miss A. Land. ESPERANTO SOCIETY. The annual social and business meeting of the New Zealand Esperanto Society was held under the presidency of Mr. Leslie Hunt at Buchanan's cafe, Karangahaperoad, last night. The nature of the proceedings indicated that members had resolved to work for the language In a business-liSe and vigorous rather than a visionary way. Local groups are to be constituted with a view to the formation of classes, and other steps are to be taken to demonstrate the practical utility of Esperanto. The secretary (Mr. Stevens) reported a steady year s progress in Auckland, and the remarkable spread of the language on the European continent. Mr. Russell gave an interesting account of the flourishing society in Christchurch, where some of a large membership are conversing freely in Esperanto. Sir Joseph Ward, who avowed his strong support of the language during his recent visit to London, was invited to become patron of the society, and officers for the year were elected as follows: President, Mr. R- E. Hunt: vice-presidents. Mesers. J. S. Russell, M. Keesing. N. MacMunn. 8.A., C. M. Harrison, and Aldridge; secretary. Mr. Stephens; council, Mrs. French, Misses Stewart and Battie, and Mr. Midgley. BENEFIT CONCERT. A benefict concert in aid of a distressed family was held in the Orange Hall last Songs were rendered by Misses Mclntyre, Baker, Whittaker, and Mr. Douglas. Recitations were given by the Rev. Thompson and Miss Brown, and a euphonium solo by Mr. F. Piper. The entertainment concluded with a capital series of lantern views. STAR OF EDEN ODDFELLOWS. The Star of Eden Lodge, No. 54, 1.0.0. F., of N.Z., celebrated its 14th anniversary by a social and dance in the Hibernian Hall. A long programme of dances was provided, and the music was supplied by Bro. Sapsford's orchestra. Bros. R. Derrom and R Johnson carried out their duties as M.C.'s. in a most able manner. DEVONPORT FORESTERS' ANNIVERSARY SOCIAL. . The 23rd anniversary of Court Victoria, No. 6699, of the A.0.F., was celebrated by a social in the Devonport Foresters' Hall last night. There were about 150 couples present, and dancing was kept up with zest till an early hour this morning. The winners of the progressive euchre tournament were Mrs Kebbell and Bro. King. Tfac orraiiaenicnts for the gvGoing were ndmirably carried out by a committee, of which Sro. J. Brewer was secretary. The M.C.'s were Bros. G. Ballantyne, W. TJ. Timewell, and W. Walker. Items were contributed by Messrs Wrigley, Feltham, F. M. King, and H. Woolley. The catering was in the hands of Bro. Lane, while the dance music was supplied by an orchestra comprising Bros. E. Knowles, W. L. Rowland, W.. N. Munro, and J. S. Miller. Amongst those present were district officers Greenslade and Kent, and representatives from several city and suburban Foresters' Courts. The function proved raost successful and enjoyable.
