FATALITY AT POROTI.
KILLED,, BY A FALLING TREE. (Ey Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Thursday. An inquest was held at the Hospital, before the Coroner (Mr. J. M. Killen), on the body of Edward Croucher, who was killed at Whatitiri, near Poroti, yesterday, whilst felling a tree.
William Croucher, brother to the deceased, who was helping to fall the tree, gave evidence as to how the accident occurred. The -tree, when falling, split, and the butt shot back, striking the deceased in the stomach, knocking him down and falling across his legs. The tree was levered away, and assistance being summoned, the injured man was taken to the Hospital, where he died about four hours tfter admission.
Walter Stables also gave evidence as to seeing the accident, and helping to extract the deceased from under the tree.
A verdict of accidental death, caused by a falling tree was returned by the jury, no blame being attached to anyone.
