The President said it was a deplorable action on behalf of the Council to Wast a man's character to uphold their engineer. The engineer stated that he couid not reinstate iallentire, but he would get him a job elsewhere. There was no reason, said the speaier, why Tallentire shoud not be reinstated. Mr E. Leydon moved, "That a committee, consisting of the executive oi&eers ft the branch, ■with power to add to their number, be formed to- take legal adrice "on behalf of John Tallentire, with a visW to taking action against the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Auckland." He thonght it "was a shameful thing to said an honest man out into the cold world Vith a stigma on his shoulders. The action of the Cocacil was disgraceful and should not be tolerated in a democratic conntiy. (Applause.) The motion was carried unanimously. The President mored a further resolution, as follows: "That a subscription list be circulated in order to collect funds to defray any legal expenses that may be incurrediln connection with the case." This was seconded, and also carried unanimously, and the sum of £10 S/6 was subscribed at tie meeting.

Plural Voting.—A resolution from the Clevedon Branch was receivedto the effect that the time had arrived far'the abolition of plural voting at county aid road board elections, and for the local franchise to be amended ie such manner as to placi every adult, or at least every roadTjoard on an equality at the ballot bos. The P?Ssldent said the Clevedon Branch was entitled to the heartiest support- Plural Toting should be abolished, and he thought that the .time ■was not far distant when the Parliamentary roll would be the hasis of all public elections. One-man-one-vote warthe only system that should obtain.

Mr T. Harle Giles moveijj "That the Auckland Branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation of Xew Zealand heartily approve of the resolution snbmitted byite Clevedon Branch, in relation to plural j-oting as regards county council and road board elections, and this branch pledges itself to do all in its power to urge npon the Government the speedy amendment of the existing system of plural voting, and Hat a copy of the above resolution be forwarded to the Clevedon Branch." Mr J. Patterson seconded. Sir MeSlahon suggested that the meeting might pass a resolntioa to the effect that the electoral roll should, apply to all municipal elections la the colony. Mr Xerheny thought the time for such a suggestion was inopportune. They should proceed step by step. At a meeting of the directors of the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company a furhter dividend of 3 J per cent was declared, making a total of 65 per cent for the year; £2000 -was written off for depreciation, and £1000 was carried forward.
