(Received 9.12 a.m.)
HOBART, this day. The rescue of the crew of the Kawatiri (who remained on board) was a brave act.
When all hope of saving them had been abandoned six men manned a lifeboat and made many gallant attempts to reach the steamer, but each time were carried away by mountainous seas, and their lives imperilled.
Their desperate bravery -was, however, rewarded with success.
' The struggle was long and terrible, and the men were spent when their task was accomplished. \
