WELLINGTON, Wednesday. -#j deputation representing the mining interests of the colony had a lengthy interview, -with the Minister for Customs -to-day, in connection with the demand" that mining machinery and appliBB£es should be admitted to the colony free of dnty. The deputation submitted g, schedule of mining appliances and 'inajjjjnery, 1 * ?-nd the Minister, who was asby officers of the Department, jrent through the items in detail. He gonsented to place on the free list the following articles: —Fans for ventilating jnineSj: turbine pumps, electric exploders, '"rock drills, sharpeners, sand pumps, jjonnnels, track wheels, truck axles and pedestals, truck springs, locomotive 'ihsels, tyres, axles and springs, rock and parts thereof, coal cutters and air picks, vacuum pumps, sinking pumps, golntion pumps, steam pumps exceeding 6000 gallons per hour capacity, wire pipes, air compressors, steam belt or elee£ncauy j driven gas engines, including jjdfccii and belt pulley oil engines, stampjr haiteries and all parts thereof, ore feeders, forged or pressed steel shoes .-sad dies, tube mills, flint pebbles, grinding pans, ball mills, filter presses, diajnrrnri briquet •nia.fcrng and COal ■(fashing machinery, gold saving cloth of all descriptions, battery blankets when not over three feet wide, material for gfier doih made of cotton, copper plates, i Eadnnnitz metal plates for amalgamating eoneentTators and parts thereof, "jabber endless belts for concentrators, jock breakers and t spare parts, ore crashing:tolls, pit head iron or steel eheaves, steel and iron head frames for mrnTng shafts, chain links and rollers for conveyors and conveyor belts of rubber or fibre, grizzly bars, grooved pulleys for rope drives, parts for turbine pumps, gbaffc, signalling gear, battery screening '(TWjraiaad-puiiehed), truck axle boxes, Spares for steam and air pumps, spar jaris for ak compressors, spare parts for gas ami of! engines, spare parts for stam--pffiaiieries, spare parts for tube and ' JbH nrius, and spare parts for conceitHie .Minister promised to consider some points on which he was doubtful, and to make inquiries as to the capabilities of Jocal manufacturers. He declined, to jnake any reduction, in the amount of grotectian at present afforded to local ittdasfries.
