A fire broke out this morning at the bouse of Mr. King, baker, in Ponsonbyroad. The flames originated in a wardrobe in one of the bedrooms. The alarm was given, and the City Fire Brigade -arrived promptly on the scene, and succeeded in extinguishing the fire before »ny very serious damage had resulted. A telegram to Inspector Oullen from Papakura to-day states that Andrew iD. Bremner has been committed for sentence at that place on two charges of horse-stealing. The accused was admitted to bail Four new tramcars, similar to the new small. radial truck cars., recently placed on the lines, arrived from London by the steamer Rakaia yesterday. !Ehe cars are complete, and will be assembled at the Ponsonby depot without idelay. H.M.S. Prometheus is expected to arrive at Auckland from Wellington next Thursday, for docking. . Constable J. CGrady, of the City police force, leaves to-day -for Hastings on transfer. ■■; .
